The brief
Where we started.
Aura's algorithmic trading platform was the most powerful engine on the market, but its legacy interface actively alienated institutional traders, requiring a six-week training onboarding process. Every new hire at client firms represented a revenue gap before productivity. The platform's technical excellence was being undermined by its own interface.
The strategy
A concept-led direction.
We initiated an ethnographic study, tracking the eye movements of institutional traders over ten-hour market sessions. The directive was to completely rethink the UX logic of high-frequency platforms, prioritising cognitive ease during high-stress market volatility. The resulting system surfaces only critical delta metrics and hides secondary data behind intuitive hover states — visible when needed, invisible when not.

What we built.
The design system aggressively modularises the dashboard. Dark-mode-first to reduce ocular fatigue across ten-hour sessions. A bespoke data-visualisation engine running on HTML5 Canvas renders order-book depth without frame drops. Every colour in the system is assigned to a specific data delta — red is loss, green is gain, and nothing else wears those hues.
